The story of Don Quixote was very surprising to me and was not at all what I expected it to be about. When I got put into this class I have to admit I was not looking forward to it. I had not heard of it before and when I looked it up I didn’t think much of it other than it is a classic and very renowned book. What I had read about the book did not leave me very interested.
To my surprise as I started to read the book and get into the story I was intrigued. I did not think it would have comical aspects to it at all. Before this class, my idea of any book written in the 1600’s is that it would be boring and outdated. I guess I had just never thought that a book from the 1600’s would be funny and attention grabbing. One of my favorite parts of the novel is from chapter two when he calls two prostitutes ” high born maidens”. As you can see from this quotation, “Your ladyships need not fly or fear any rudeness, for that it belongs not to the order of knighthood which I profess to offer to anyone, much less to highborn maidens as your appearance proclaims you to be.”, Don Quixote really thought of them as high class women! He also foolishly resisted the wrenches attempt to remove his armor and continued to try and eat and drink with it on! I find this to be very humorous and was not expecting it at all from this novel.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised when reading this novel. I have to admit, I came in not expecting much from it but I was thrown off guard when I realized I was actually enjoying it. Each little scene continues to show just how foolish and unreasonable Don Quixote is.
